How to convert Word to PDF

  1. Select your .docx file.
  2. Choose the page size (A4 or US Letter).
  3. Click Convert to PDF and download the file.
  4. For complex layouts or non-Latin scripts, use Print / Save as PDF instead and pick Save as PDF as the printer.

Two ways to convert

Convert to PDF creates the PDF directly in your browser. It keeps:

  • headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text;
  • bulleted and numbered lists, including nested lists;
  • simple tables and embedded JPG/PNG images.

It uses a clean standard font and A4 or US Letter pages with comfortable margins. Headers, footers, footnotes, text boxes, columns and page numbers are not recreated.

Print / Save as PDF opens your browser’s print window instead. Choose Save as PDF (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) or Microsoft Print to PDF (Windows) as the printer. This uses your computer’s fonts, so it is the better choice for Tamil, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese and other non-Latin scripts, for emoji, and for documents with complex tables.

Why convert Word files to PDF?

A PDF looks the same on every phone, tablet and computer, and people cannot easily change it by accident. That is why CVs, invoices, letters and forms are usually sent as PDFs. If you have Microsoft Word, File → Save As → PDF gives the most faithful result. This tool is for when you don’t have Word, are on a borrowed computer, or just want it done in a few seconds.

Privacy

The .docx file is read in your browser with the open-source mammoth.js library and turned into a PDF on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert an old .doc file?

This tool reads the modern .docx format. Open an old .doc file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and save it as .docx first.

Why does my PDF look slightly different from Word?

Word layouts depend on the fonts and settings installed on your computer. The converter keeps the structure (headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, lists, simple tables and images) but uses a standard font. If you need an exact copy, use the Print / Save as PDF option, which uses your browser's own text engine.

Does it work with Tamil, Hindi, Arabic or Chinese text?

Use the Print / Save as PDF option for those. The direct converter's built-in fonts cover Western European languages, and the tool warns you when a document needs the print option.

Is the document uploaded?

No. Both options run inside your browser, so your document never leaves your device.
