When merging PDFs helps
Merging is the quickest way to send one tidy file instead of a pile of attachments: a job application with your CV, cover letter and certificates; a visa or loan application that asks for “a single PDF”; monthly invoices for your accountant; or scanned pages that came out of the scanner as separate files.
Why this merger is different
Most free PDF sites upload your documents to their servers, merge them there and send the result back. That is fine for a restaurant menu, but not ideal for bank statements, ID scans or contracts. This tool does the work inside your browser tab with the open-source pdf-lib library. Your files stay on your device, and there is no queue and no waiting for a download link.
Good to know
- Order matters. The merged file follows the list from top to bottom. Sort A–Z is handy for numbered scans such as
scan-01.pdf,scan-02.pdf. - Quality is unchanged. Pages are copied as they are, with no re-compression, so text stays sharp and searchable.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. The tool tells you which file is protected.
- Very large merges (hundreds of megabytes) depend on your device’s memory. If a phone struggles, merge on a computer or in smaller groups.
Related tasks
Need only some pages from one of the files? Use Split PDF first. If the merged file is too big to email, run it through Compress PDF. To add photos or scans, convert them with JPG to PDF and then merge.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs here?
Yes. The merging happens inside your browser using JavaScript, so your files are never uploaded to our server or any other server. Once the page has loaded, the work is done on your own device.
Is there a limit on the number or size of files?
There is no fixed limit. The practical limit is your device's memory: dozens of ordinary PDFs or a few hundred megabytes in total work fine on a typical computer. Phones handle less.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly. Open the protected PDF in a reader that knows the password, save or print it as a new PDF without a password, then merge that copy.
Will the merged PDF keep links and bookmarks?
Page content, text, images and links on the pages are kept. Document-level bookmarks (the outline panel) and form fields from the original files may not carry over.
