Crop, fit or stretch?
When the new size has a different shape from your photo you have three options:
- Crop to fill: the image fills the whole frame and the edges are trimmed. Best for social posts.
- Fit inside: the whole image is kept and the gaps are filled with a colour you choose. Best for product photos and logos.
- Resize exactly: the image is squeezed to the exact size. Only use this if you’ve kept the aspect ratio locked.
Passport and ID photos
The square preset gives a 600 × 600 pixel image, the smallest size the US State Department accepts for digital passport photos (it allows 600 × 600 up to 1200 × 1200). Other countries use different sizes and strict rules on background and head position, so always check the official requirements before submitting.
Private and batch-friendly
Resize one image or a whole batch with the same settings and download them as a ZIP. Everything happens in your browser. To make files smaller as well, follow up with Compress Image.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize without stretching the photo?
Keep Lock aspect ratio ticked and change only the width or height; the other value follows automatically. With a preset of a different shape, choose Crop to fill or Fit inside so nothing is stretched.
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080 by 1080 pixels for a square post and 1080 by 1350 for a portrait post. Stories and Reels use 1080 by 1920. All three are presets in the tool.
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, but enlarging cannot add detail that was not in the original, so large increases look soft.
Can I resize many photos at once?
Yes. Select several images; they are all resized with the same settings and you can download them as a ZIP.
