How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Click Select HEIC photos and choose the .heic files from your iPhone, computer or cloud drive.
- Keep JPG selected (or choose PNG).
- Click Convert.
- Download the JPGs one by one or all together as a ZIP.
Why can’t I open my iPhone photos?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default. HEIC files are about half the size of JPGs, but plenty of software still doesn’t support them: older Windows versions without the paid HEVC extension, many websites and upload forms, some Android apps and older photo editors. Converting to JPG fixes that.
Three ways to avoid HEIC trouble
- Convert existing photos here. Select any number of .heic files and download them as JPGs, together in a ZIP.
- Change the camera setting. On your iPhone go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are saved as JPG.
- Let the iPhone convert when transferring. Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic makes the iPhone send JPGs when you copy photos to a computer over USB.
Quality and size
The default quality (90%) is visually identical to the original for normal viewing and printing. The JPGs will be roughly one and a half to two times larger than the HEIC files. Live Photos convert to a still image; the short video part isn’t included.
Private conversion of personal photos
Your photos are decoded by an open-source HEIC library running in your browser. They are never uploaded, which matters for pictures of family, documents and anything else personal.
Want to shrink them afterwards? Use Compress Image. Need a PDF? Use JPG to PDF, which also accepts HEIC directly.
Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads have used by default since iOS 11. It is about half the size of a JPG at similar quality, but many Windows computers, Android apps and websites cannot open it.
Can I stop my iPhone saving HEIC photos?
Yes. On the iPhone, go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Existing photos stay HEIC.
Will converting lower the quality?
At the default 90% quality the difference is not visible in normal viewing. JPG files will be larger than the HEIC originals.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so your personal photos stay on your device.
