How to cut an MP3

  1. Select an audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, FLAC or an MP4).
  2. Drag the handles on the waveform, or type exact start and end times.
  3. Click Play selection to check it, and add a fade in or out if you like.
  4. Choose MP3 or WAV, click Cut and download.

What you can do

  • Trim silence or chatter from the start and end of a recording.
  • Make a ringtone or alarm from your favourite part of a song.
  • Remove a section from the middle, such as a cough, an advert or a mistake.
  • Add a fade in and fade out of 1 to 3 seconds for smooth starts and endings.
  • Save as MP3 (128, 192 or 320 kbps) or as lossless WAV.

Precise selection

Drag on the waveform to set the start and end points, or type exact times such as 1:05.5. The ±0.1 buttons nudge each point by a tenth of a second. Click Play selection to hear exactly what will be kept. After cutting, a player lets you check the result before downloading.

Formats

You can open MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC files, and the audio track of MP4 videos. Which formats work depends on your browser: Chrome, Edge and Firefox handle all of the above; Safari handles most. Files are decoded by your browser and re-encoded to MP3 with the open-source LAME encoder.

Ringtone tips

  • iPhone ringtones can be up to 40 seconds long; Android has no strict limit.
  • A 1–2 second fade in and out makes a ringtone sound less abrupt.
  • For iPhone, the clip must be imported as a ringtone with GarageBand on the phone, or with Finder or iTunes on a computer.

Private

Your audio is never uploaded. Everything, including MP3 encoding, runs in your browser. To get the audio out of a video first, use MP4 to MP3.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a ringtone?

Select the part of the song you want (iPhone ringtones can be up to 40 seconds), add a short fade in and out, and save as MP3. Android phones can use the MP3 directly; iPhones need the clip imported as a ringtone through GarageBand or Finder/iTunes.

Can I remove a part from the middle?

Yes. Select the part you want to get rid of and set Mode to Remove the selection. The rest of the recording is joined together.

Which formats can I open?

MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC work in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Safari supports most of them. The audio from MP4 videos usually works too.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. Decoding, cutting and MP3 encoding all happen in your browser.
